Art, Literature, and the Brutal Death of Paper!

Comicpocalypse Smash!!! This week there is no containing Jakob Brewster's anger towards DC Comics. Then he turns his giant, vengeful fists towards the movie the Incredible Hulk. Did it satisfy his need for green-skinned violence? And did he just say he liked Speed Racer the movie?! Finally, last week Comicpocalypse cozied up to the idea of digital comics. Now, it is time to look at the other side and Jakob comes out swinging and kicking for the groin. Warren Ellis and Paul Duffield's webcomic, FREAKANGELS, is examined. And Jakob discusses what changes he thinks a digital comic revolution would bring to comic books as an art form.

And a review of Grendel: Behold the Devil #8 and Red Mass For Mars #1.

Art, Literature, and Santa's Reindeer of the Apocalypse!

Oh comic books, how do I love ye? Let me count the ways... Actually, only one of the many reasons to love comic books is examined during this issue of the almighty Comicpocalypse. That reason: awesome portrayals of pulp fiction. No, I'm not talking about Batman discussing the name of a quarter pound cheeseburger in France with the Green Arrow. I am talking about kung fu and monkeys and the living dead and punching and vampires and all those elements that are looked down by those sipping tea in their ivory towers. Because sometimes cyborg gorillas trump the masterful use of iambic pentameter. Oh, and a discussion of B-rated superheroes getting their own movies spins wildly out of control and compares them to that episode of South Park with the Crab People. Strap on your seatbelt bub, this issue of Comicpocalypse is flooring it and heading full speed to Crazy Town. Enjoy!

Plus reviews of Astonishing X-Men #25, Conan the Cimmerian #0, House of Mystery #3, No Hero #0, The Programme #12, and Thunderbolts #121.

Art, Literature, and the Internets!

It's comic books meets the Matrix--except no black trenchcoats or bad sequels or Keanu Reeves or all those little green numbers--as Comicpocalypse examines comics in the digital age. Jakob Brewster talks with Comic Book Resources' featured blog, Comics Should Be Good, head honcho Brian Cronin and discusses blogging about what makes a good comic. And then Star Wars Action News's Arnie Carvalho argues for digital comics in a special guest segment. He also reviews Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited and other online comic sites.

And reviews of Speak Of The Devil #6 (of 6) and H.P. Lovecraft's Haunt of Horror #1.
